Coro dos Amantes (Portugal)
Lovers' Choir is Tiago Rodrigues's first written text. The play premiered in 2007 at Culturgest in Lisbon, featuring Cláudia Gaiolas and Tónan Quito.
It's a coral play, a lyrical narrative where a young couple recounts, in two voices, the life-or-death situation they are experiencing when one of them can no longer breathe. Simultaneously, the two actors/lovers present slightly different versions of the same events, celebrating the vital force of love when everything else is called into question, and normality becomes unreachable.
In 2021, Tiago Rodrigues revisited the piece and added a "song" about the passage of time, the continuation of the lovers' lives, and the enduring love that defied death. This version premiered in the same year, at Théâtre de Lorient. Now, Cláudia Gaiolas and Tónan Quito return to this text to question what has happened to them. What happened to this couple? As if they were questioning themselves through these characters.
