Coro dos Amantes (Portugal)
'Lovers’ Choir', by Tiago Rodrigues, is a lyrical narrative where a young couple recounts, in two voices, the life-or-death situation they are experiencing when one of them can no longer breathe. Simultaneously, the two actors/lovers present slightly different versions of the same events, celebrating the vital force of love when everything else is called into question, and normality becomes unreachable.
Lovers' Choir is Tiago Rodrigues's first written text. The play premiered in 2007 at Culturgest in Lisbon, featuring Cláudia Gaiolas and Tónan Quito.
In 2021, Tiago Rodrigues revisited the piece to add a "song" about the passage of time, the continuation of the lovers' lives, and the enduring love that defied death. This 2021 version, performed alternately by Alma Palacios or Océane Caïraty and David Geselson or Grégoire Monsaingeon, premiered on September 24, 2021, at Théâtre de Lorient.
Cláudia Gaiolas and Tónan Quito return to this text to question what has happened to them. What happened to this couple? As if they were questioning themselves through these characters.
